Available Positions

[Test edit.] The following positions related to the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug project are currently available. Click the title links below to read the full position descriptions and learn how to apply.

  • Postdoctoral Scholar at Washington State University The lab of David Crowder at Washington State University is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to examine the landscape ecology of brown marmorated stink bug, an invasive insect that threatens specialty crops throughout the United States. The postdoc will help lead a nationwide effort, as part of a funded USDA Specialty Crops Research Initiative Grant, to develop models exploring how landscape-level and environmental factors interact to affect stink bug population dynamics and distribution. Read full announcement for more details.
  • Postdoctoral Research Associate at USDA-ARS The USDA-ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station seeks a postdoctoral research associate to conduct research on the biology, chemical ecology and dispersal behavior of the brown marmorated stink bug in order to develop effective monitoring and management tools for this important invasive pest of tree fruit and other crops. The incumbent will be stationed at Kearneysville, West Virginia and supervised by Dr. Tracy Leskey. Read full announcement for more details.
  • Master’s Position in “Field Insect Ecology and Public Outreach” at Utah State University We seek a highly motivated student to study ecology and behavior of brown marmorated stink bug in Utah’s urban-agricultural landscapes, beginning August 2017. Specifically, the project will focus on determining the phenology (timing and development) of brown marmorated stink bug life stages (eggs, nymphs, and adults), and comparing efficacy of traps and pheromone lures for adults in fruit and adjacent crops. Participation in public outreach activities is expected. A Bachelor’s degree in biology, entomology, horticulture, or closely related discipline is required. Preference will be given to applications received by December 15, 2016. Read full announcement for more details.
  • Graduate Research Assistantship (PhD) – Brown Marmorated Stink Bug Ecology We seek a highly motivated student who holds an MS degree (Entomology or Biology) to conduct basic and applied research on aspects of brown marmorated stink bug ecology and behavior that relate to mitigating its status as an agricultural and/or nuisance pest, beginning Spring semester, 2017. The student will be co-advised by Drs. Chris Bergh (Virginia Tech, Winchester, Virginia) and Tracy Leskey (USDA ARS Appalachian Fruit Research Station, Kearneysville, West Virginia), who will assist the candidate with developing specific project objectives, questions, and potential experimental approaches. Read full announcement for more details.
  • Postdoctoral Research Associate Position at Rutgers University A full-time, one-year appointment is available for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to investigate the population ecology and behavior of the invasive brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB). This position will examine factors that influence BMSB population growth behavior in orchards and diversified landscapes that will guide management decisions. Postdoc will work with Anne Nielsen at the Fruit Entomology lab and will be located at Rutgers Agricultural Research and Extension Center (RAREC) in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
